2012 HS Grads–Ready for College?!

ACT and The College Board have released their college readiness benchmark data for the high school Class of 2012.  Here is what they have reported:
Among ACT Takers
67% college ready in English
52% college ready in Reading
46% college ready in Mathematics
31% college ready in Science
Among SAT Takers
49% college ready in Critical Reading
55% college ready in Mathematics
45% college ready in Writing
Further Margaret Spellings indicated that 49% of American employers are having difficulty “particularly in Math[ematics] and science, high-tech jobs, manufacturing and mechanics.  The jobs are there, the education is not.”
Aron White, when contemplating Spellings data points suggests that college students should think carefully about the majors they choose.  “You need to be strategic regarding the long-term prospects your major will offer.”
