In a message to Distinctive Schools colleagues today, Keith Palz, Science Director provided a document summarizing the new National Science Standards. If you have not reviewed these, they can be found in a link in Keith’s message below:
I wanted to share one of the drafts of the next generation science standards with you. These are the national standards that we believe Illinois will be adopting sometime this year. You will notice that like our Distinctive Schools Science Maps the large scale scientific concepts (life, physical, earth & space) are covered every year and build upon each other during that process. These new standards are based on recommendations published in “The Framework for K-12 Science Education” by the National Research Council (July 2011).
I think you will all be happy to see that the number and clarity of the standards will give our team a chance to go more indepth with the concepts.
