MInnesota ACT scores. Promising and Alarming!

ACT scores are in for 2013. Minnesota again scored the highest (average) in Nation among states with more than 50% taking the college-entrance exam.  Star Tribune article can be read at link: http://www.startribune.com/local/220444961.html

Promising:  High average of 23 with more than 74% of seniors taking the exam.
Alarming:  Still an awful performance gap between white kids reaching college-readiness benchmark (61%) vs. black kids reaching the same benchmark (16%)
One of the reasons our Distinctive Schools network is pursuing the opening of a college-prep early learning academy in the 2014-15 school year is to help close that gap and raise the bar even higher for all kids.
Congratulations MN on two important measures.  Good luck as you work on that gap. We cannot propel forward as a Nation without closing all opportunity and performance gaps for all our under-performing kids.
