South Korean Hagwons and Higher Edcuation

In education-centric South Korea web based college entrance courses can make teachers millions if they gain enough attention as a viral teaching stars. Cha Kil-yong runs an online “hagwon” or cram school that focuses on preparing students for college entrance exams in math. Cha reports he earned the equivalent of $8 million last year. South Korean students face an incredibly competitive academic landscape. Working hard to earn the highest scores, after traditional high school classes they attend online hagwons for after hours test prep study. The web courses have become a $20 billion industry and a stable in South Korean education
