EcoWatch: Compostable Lunch Trays
The Urban School Food Alliance was formed in 2012 by school administrators in New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami, Dallas and Orlando. This past May they announced the introduction of compostable lunch plates, rather than polystyrene plates which break down into toxic gas, in their school systems. Over 2.5 million meals are served a day by schools in the Alliance. This is a huge change in an effort to engage in eco-responsible behavior in schools, eliminating toxic waste for future generations to problem solve and clean up.
