The Motivated Brain

The book The Motivated Brain: Improving Student Attention, Engagement and Perseverance explores neuroscientific findings on the motivation to learn. Neuroscientist Jaak Panksepp terms it, the drive to seek. Seeking is the manifestation of curiosity and important component to leaning and engagement. Seeking behaviors are innate and start with play and games that are later developed through nurture/schools.The authors are Gayle Gregory, a consultant specialized in differentiated instruction and assessment and Martha Kaufeldt, who has taught at all grade levels and has served as a district level staff developer. Their work aims to show teachers how to harness the power of students’ intrinsic motivation while making learning engaging, meaningful and fun
